Product Description In THE GREAT COW RACE, volume 2 of this 9-book epic, Fone Bone and his cousins plan to return home after visiting the village of Barrelhaven with Thorn and Gran'ma Ben. But Phoney risks everything on one last get-rich-quick scheme for the town's annual Great Cow Race. As usual, Phoney's plans go disastrously awry, and Boneville seems further away than ever. Meanwhile, ominous signs indicate that a war is brewing, and Fone finds himself helping his friends defend their valley from a formidable enemy.

Two down, one more to go! January 2, 2010 Betsi J. Lamoure Good books were requested on his Christmas list. These definitely were. In fact, we have already ordered the next three in the series.
Great book May 22, 2009 Luis Alonso (Princeton) My kids, 10 and 12 years old, are not avid book or comic book readers, but the devaoured the 9 volumes in a couple of weekends.
The quality of the book was flawless.
Even I enjoyed it.
This book is NOT for kids!!! April 21, 2009 DadOfThree (Illinois, USA) 0 out of 16 found this review helpful
I was completely shocked and horrified that this book is marketed to young children by Scholastic. My [...] son received this Bone book as a gift. I could not believe that the content contains characters smoking. This is NOT a book that should be given to a child for that reason alone! After doing some research I read that Scholastic at first did not want to include the inappropriate content and asked the author to edit it. The author refused and Scholastic agreed to publish the book with the smoking scenes. As a parent I do not think any child should be reading a book that "glamorizes" smoking. I am also disgusted that Scholastic, which is a name parents trust, would allow this series to be marketed to young children.
Now it really gets fun. January 30, 2009 William S. Oetting (St. Louis) The story gets really fun now that we have an old woman racing cows. The story thickens as Fone Bone and Thorn have dreams that they can't explain even though they can tell that Grandma Ben knows something about them. Again the coloring is beautiful and the writing is very natural.
Fantastic Book! December 6, 2008 Just Bob (Santa Barbara, CA United States) Book is very funny! Probably best to read the Bone books in sequence, otherwise, you may be lost, a bit.
